Understanding Sun Exposure; Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is the primary cause of skin cancer, including melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. Prolonged sun exposure without adequate protection can also lead to premature aging, sunburn, and eye damage. It’s essential to take proactive measures to minimize UV exposure and protect your skin and eyes from harm.

Tips for Sun Protection:

 

  1. Use Sunscreen: Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 to all exposed skin, including the face, neck, arms, and hands, before heading outdoors. Reapply sunscreen every two hours or more frequently if sweating or swimming.

 

  1. Wear Protective Clothing: Dress in lightweight, long-sleeved shirts, pants, and wide-brimmed hats to shield your skin from the sun’s rays. Choose clothing made from tightly woven fabrics with a UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) rating for added sun protection.
